Testimony ended for the day in Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook's divorce trial
with both sides refusing to say if they were still in settlement talks.
"It's what I pray for,"
the supermodel said earlier in the day when asked whether a custody deal was afoot.
Cook was more cryptic.
"Do you like a cake when it's half-baked or when it's finished?" the architect said.
The eighth day of their trial began with two minor witnesses.
Then testimony was postponed while the two camps went into negotiations,
a source said.
Four hours later, they returned to court - apparently without a deal in place -
to hear from two more witnesses.
Then, after a brief meeting in the judge's chambers, the trial was halted again around 4 p.m.
with no explanation and adjourned until Thursday.
The estranged spouses are in the second phase of the trial,
which focuses on custody of Jack, 13, and Sailor, 10.
Under a temporary custody agreement, Cook has the children from Friday night until
Monday morning every other weekend and every Wednesday night.
Brinkley wants the children to stay with her every weeknight -
which would leave Cook with just four nights a month with the kids.
Cook has been pushing for more access.
A court-appointed psychiatrist on Tuesday recommended Brinkley get custody,
citing Cook's affair with a teenager and his Internet sexcapades.
The shrink, Dr. Stephen Herman, also said both parents should be in therapy
to work on their emotional problems.
The witnesses Brinkley presented Wednesday included representatives
from the Ford modeling agency and William Morris Agency,
who testified that she scheduled her work around her kids' needs.
The children's music teacher took the stand in the afternoon.
"I observed that Christie was a very kind, warm mother and taught
the children respect and was a stickler about their manners,"
said the teacher, Christine Glennon.
